From learning to cycle to mountain biking - whatever stage you're at we can help!

Learning to Cycle – Road Safety Cycling

If you are a confident cyclist then the phrase ‘it’s like riding a bike’ makes perfect sense but if you’re a bit rusty or starting from complete scratch then the mere thought of cycling can often conjure up fear, danger and trepidation. And if that’s you, fear not, you are not alone!

Whether you’re a parent wanting to teach your child to ride a bike or you never learnt yourself, it’s never too late to learn to ride your bike and we’re experienced in teaching people of all ages and abilities road safety and cycling skills.  Whether it’s just to enjoy a leisurely social cycle or to commute and use your bike as an alternative mode of transport, there are many benefits to cycling; to your physical and mental health, to the environment, to your pocket and to saving you time!

As a DfT registered, National Standards** Instructor for West Sussex County Council, we’ve taught 100's of Year 6+ pupils bike handling and road safety skills through the Bikeability* award scheme.

Adult sessions are available on a one-to-one basis for all levels, from learning to cycle to how to safely negotiate their local neighbourhood on two wheels.

We also work with people with special needs, including wheelchair users, stroke survivors and dementia patients, on a one to one or small group basis and through the Wheels For All Network.

So if you think cycling could be for you, then contact us to learn how to cycle and cycle safely on roads and to improve your cycling skills and confidence.

*Bikeability offers young people the chance to develop their skills and confidence to cycle safely on today’s roads.

There are three Bikeability levels. These take trainees from the basics of balance and control, all the way to planning and making an independent journey on busier roads. Courses are not designed to teach trainees how to ride, but to increase their basic skills, observation, hazard awareness and perception of risk.  Bikeability cycling sessions for school children may be free of charge.

** The National Standard for Cycle Training is a statement of competent cycling and cycling instruction.

From the Department for Transport (DfT) and Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVLA). It sets out the skills and understanding needed to cycle safely and responsibly and to enable others to cycle. The standard provides the basis for Bikeability and a range of adult cycle training programmes.

"Great cycle tuition. Sasha came to our house and taught my 8 and 11 year old daughters how to ride on the road. She built up a great rapport with the girls and they thoroughly enjoyed it. They are now confident cycling out on the road."
